Amy (Revta) Richardson & Saber

Amy is a dog training professional with over 20 years experience. Training is her life and her Passion. Areas of training expertise include:
  • Obedience Training on/off leash
  • Behavior Modification
  • Problem Solving
  • Puppy Pre-School
  • Personal Protection
All training programs begin with an in depth evaluation, which generally takes about 1 hour. During this evaluation the personality and trainability of the dog is determined, the "root" or "why" of the behavioral problem is identified, the goals for training are determined and a plan of action is outlined. This session also gives pet owners an opportunity to meet and evaluate me, to discuss my approach to training and behavior modification and to see where their pet will stay should they choose a residency training program. Evaluations are free for dogs under the age of one year.

Private Lesson Program: Weekly lessons, approximately one hour per session, are designed to instruct the dog owner on the "how to" of leadership, teaching the dog obedience commands, (heel, sit, down, stay, come) and the solving or prevention of behavioral problems, (jumping, barking, house breaking, aggression, ect.)

Residency Program: With this program, your pet will stay with me for ten days of training, during the time with me the dog will be taught all obedience commands; (heel, sit, down, stay, come), all "manners"; (no leash pulling, bolting thru door ways, jumping, barking, ect.). When the dog has completed the ten day stay there are four follow up sessions for the owner--this part of the program is designed to instruct the owner on the "how to" of leadership and the maintaining of the commands and manners that have been taught to their pet.

Puppy Pre-School: A private puppy consultation is designed to teach pet owners: the importance of the socialization period of the pup's life (6 - 16 weeks old), the "why" and "how to" of leadership exercises, housebreaking, play biting and how to avoid common mistakes that can lead to unacceptable behavioral problems later on in life. A great investment in the future for your new pup. PREVENTION of a problem is always easier than fixing!

Please call / e-mail Amy for any additional information or questions.

ATTENDING DOG TRAINING COURSES

Most dog owners would always ensure the safety and well-being of their dogs as they are made part of their families. To get the dogs to behave in the right manner around family members, other people, and other animals, they will have to undergo some training. These training courses are beneficial to both the dog and you as you and your dog will surely learn a lot. You will find great rewards if you will be able to attend classes regularly. First, you will have to decide on the training course your dog will be needing as there are a lot to choose from. There are courses suited to your needs if you want your dog to learn in basic obedience training or specialized areas like assistance to some people with disabilities, or law enforcement, or even in search and rescue. Don't limit your dog with what it can learn as this would also be beneficial to him. Most dogs love to learn tricks and these dogs will react well especially when you follow a reward system to make them behave in a proper way. The hardest part in training is to make your dog understand what he has to. Basic training involves simple commands such as stay, sit, down, come, heel, and close. You will be able to train him faster if your reward his good behavior and after he is able to follow your command. Never use force or even violence whenever your dog does not follow your command or is not able to understand and learn easily. Praise and reward them instead if you want them to learn faster and be in their best behavior. You also have to be patient as training dogs will take quite a long time. It is best for you to start training your dog while he is still a puppy. You can teach him basic commands on the dog as early as 8 weeks after birth but usually the dog must have 4 months of vaccinations before joining a training program. Training your dog is all about effective communication as this is the way your dog could fully understand what you want him to do and how you want him to behave. You can achieve this through giving strong commands and rewarding after as your dog will learn to respect you as their master and they would love getting rewards from you. Teaching them new tricks will even create a strong bond between your dog and you. Dogs would also love performing their tricks for you as their owners as it will make their minds be more active and it stops them from getting bored. In some cases, people will have their dogs sent to training courses because of their behavioral problem. Attending classes will help their dogs with several problems like separation anxiety, biting, or barking. Most of these problems are encountered because of the lack of communication between the owner and the dog. In order to expect great results from training your dog, you have to make sure you are firm but still fair when it comes to teaching your dog.
